Dan Ó Flatharta

Artist Biog

Dan Ó Flatharta works from his studio in Carraroe. He studied art in Cluain Mhuire Art School, G.M.I.T and graduated in 2003. Dan's paintings feature imagery which takes its inspiration from the Connemara landscape. The work explores themes personal to the artist and which now pendulums between abstraction and realism. These landscapes do not exist outside the paintings; constructed after the event, they are a compressed visual recollection of a journey, a post-mortem of memory. Death and rejuvenation play an essential role in the work as does his concern for the landscape, but what stands out is the humour inherent in many of the pieces.
